Proper aftercare is key to maintaining a beautiful, long-lasting spray tan

Here’s a guide to help you keep your tan looking fresh and even:

1. Wait to Shower

Avoid showering for at least 8-12 hours after your spray tan. This allows the tanning solution to fully develop on your skin. Avoid sweating, swimming, or any water exposure during this time as well.

2. Rinse Gently for Your First Shower

During your first shower, rinse with warm water only—skip the soap. You may see some color washing off, which is normal; it’s just the cosmetic bronzer, not your tan. Pat yourself dry with a towel instead of rubbing.

3. Avoid Exfoliating

Avoid exfoliating or using abrasive scrubs while you have your tan, as this can make your tan fade unevenly. Stick to gentle, hydrating body washes and avoid bar soap.

4. Moisturize Daily

Keep your skin hydrated by moisturizing at least twice a day. Hydrated skin holds color longer, making your tan last and fade more evenly. Look for a tan-extending moisturizer or one free from oils that can break down the tan.

5. Avoid Long, Hot Showers and Baths

Hot water can dry out your skin and cause your tan to fade more quickly. Try to keep your showers warm and short to extend your tan’s lifespan.

6. Avoid Chlorine and Saltwater

Pools, hot tubs, and ocean water can cause your tan to fade faster and unevenly. If you need to swim, apply a waterproof sunscreen or barrier cream beforehand to minimize the impact on your tan.

7. Avoid Products with Harsh Ingredients

Stay away from body washes, lotions, or exfoliators containing alcohol, AHAs, BHAs, retinols, or heavy oils, as these can break down the tan and cause it to fade faster.

8. Wear Loose, Dark Clothing Post-Tan

For the first 8-12 hours, wear loose, dark clothing to prevent any transfer of the bronzer. Tight clothing can rub and create uneven patches.

9. Avoid Shaving or Waxing

Shaving and waxing can exfoliate your skin, causing your tan to fade. Minimize these activities or use a gentle, fresh razor if shaving is necessary.

10. Touch Up as Needed

If you notice any fading areas, you can use a gradual tanning lotion or touch-up spray to even out your tan. This can extend the life of your tan between sessions.

Following these aftercare steps can help you maintain a gorgeous, even spray tan for as long as possible!
